Are you shining your light?
By Todd Barrier
When most Christians think of the term “shining your light,” our thoughts go to the gospel of Matthew. If we look in Paul’s letter to the Philippians, we see it again. In Phil. 2:15, the Bible says, “that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.”
The Philippians were living in a society much like we are now. The society they lived in was an idol–loving, unrighteous society. It was influenced by a worldly mentality much more than the spiritual.
We are living in the midst of a crooked generation, by Christian standards; however, just like the Philippians, we are called to shine our lights in this dark world. It might seem like a daunting task sometimes, but it is what we are called to do.
The short–term pain we go through here will be worth it when we make it to eternity with our Savior Jesus!
So just remember, when the weight of the world seems to weigh you down, Christians have always stood up for Christ as shining lights in a dark world. We can continue to do what Paul encouraged the Philippians to do those many years ago. Jesus calls on us to do the same today.
