Shootings leads to two arrests

Two from Hartselle are in custody following a shooting incident July 26.
July 27 Hartselle Lt. Alan McDearmond arrested Ivori Jalene Scales, 21, of Hartselle for shooting into an occupied dwelling. Scales was given a $15,000 bond and transported to the Morgan County Jail.
According to the Hartselle Police Department, the arrest was the result of an investigation into a shooting that took place on the 300 Block of Simpson Street in Hartselle July 26. Witnesses identified Scales as the lone gunman who shot Steven Preuitt, 21, in the arm and leg.
Scales left the area before law enforcement arrived.
After several hours of interviewing witnesses and victims, a warrant was obtained for shooting into an occupied dwelling. HPD officers were unable to make contact with Scales and placed an alert on the Hartselle Police Department Facebook page.
According to the HPD, Scales saw the post and turned himself at the police department.
As investigators continued to interview witnesses and review surveillance videos from Monday’s shooting, they found evidence to support a female was present during the shooting.
According to the HPD, witnesses said Serenity Rhae Thompson, 21, of Hartselle was driving the vehicle used to get to and from the residence on Simpson Street. Witnesses also allegedly saw Thompson on the porch of the residence when Ivory shot the victim twice.
A warrant was obtained for Thompson, and she turned herself in, according to the HPD.
July 30 McDearmond arrested Thompson for the charge of shooting into an occupied dwelling. Thompson was given a $15,000 bond and transported to the Morgan County Jail.
