Elnora Martin Ballard
Decatur
A graveside funeral service and Interment for Elnora Martin Ballard, 93, was held Aug. 5 at noon at Basham Methodist Church with Bro. Steve McCurry officiating and Roselawn directing.
Mrs. Ballard died Aug. 2 at the resident of her niece, Dianne Doss.
Mrs. Ballard was born Oct. 25, 1927, in Morgan County to James Otto Martin and Mellie Lee Jones. She was a member of Basham Methodist Church of Hartselle for many years. She was loved by friends and family.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Dewey Ballard; sister, Aleta Roan; mother, Mellie Jones; and father Otto Martin.
Survivors include sister, Edna Lott; seven nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Marty McCaghren, Brandon McCaghren, Ted McCaghren, Daniel, McCaghren, Lamar Lott, Evan Lott, Nick Stover and Dillon Childers. Special thanks to Hospice of the Valley and caregivers Ke’Mauri Baker and Becky Sapp.
Jerry Starnes
Hartselle
A funeral service for Jerry Starnes, 74, was held Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ralph Henderson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Starnes passed away Aug. 6 at his residence. He was born Nov. 10, 1946, in Madison County to Joshua Elijah Starnes and Flora McWhorter Starnes.
Mr. Starnes was a United States Army veteran, a former pastor and song director and a Mason. He was self-employed in the HVAC industry. He enjoyed watching westerns and Alabama football.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, W.E. “Buster” Starnes and David Starnes; and sisters, Helen Miller and Christine Johnson.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy McSpadden Starnes; daughters, Brandy Phillips (Jerry), Sommer Starnes and Chantel Russell (Christian); grandchildren, Tripp Phillips, Ellanor Phillips, Jasmine Logan (Jesse), Dawson UsMay, Gabriel UsMay, Elizabeth Russell and Caroline Russell; great-grandchildren, Seraine Logan, Aiden Logan, Jasalynn Hutchens, Jaxson Logan and Jadelin Logan; and his devoted friend, Wayne “Possum” Saint.
Daniel “Danny” Lee Goodwin
Courtland
Daniel “Danny” Goodwin went to his heavenly home Aug. 6 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 23, 1954, in Lawrence County, to Billy Grant Goodwin and Nadine Gibson Goodwin. He was a member of the Courtland Baptist Church and was employed by General Motors as a health and safety coordinator and trainer prior to his retirement.
He was an avid bowler and was a member of the Greater Decatur Bowling Association for many years, serving on the Board of Directors.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include wife, Charity Goodwin; son, Brian Goodwin; daughters, Shelby Goodwin, Sierra Goodwin and Christy Daniel; brothers, Farrel Goodwin (Christy) and Billy Goodwin (Annabeth); and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held by his family at a later date.
Bragg Suggs
Cullman
Funeral service for Bragg Suggs, 62, will be Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 11, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at New Friendship Cemetery. Mr. Suggs died on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Arlington Rehab Center in Birmingham. He was born July 23, 1959 in Morgan County to James Monroe and Jewell Dean Bell Suggs. Mr. Suggs was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jerry Suggs and one sister, Betty Suggs. Survivors include four brothers, Jimmy Suggs, Billy Suggs, James Suggs and Robert Suggs; one sister, Shirley Suggs. Felton Suggs, Lloyd Kent and David Kent will serve as pallbearers.
