County volleyball teams play opening week of season

Local teams opened the 2021 volleyball season this past week. Danville, Brewer, Falkville and Priceville all opened with matches Thursday. 

Brewer 

The Lady Patriots opened the season by dropping matches to 5A No. 5 Madison Academy 2-0 (23-25, 17-25) and Ardmore 2-1 (23-25, 25-22, 11-15).  

Jacey Atkinson had 31 assists to lead Brewer, while Sydney Wilson added 12 kills. 

Danville 

The 3A No. 4 Lady Hawks dropped matches to 3A No. 9 Geraldine 2-1 (19-25, 25-20, 9-15) and 5A No. 4 Guntersville 2-0 (18-25, 17-25). 

Saturday Danville went 3-1 in the Brewer Tournament, defeating 5A No. 7 Fairview, East Limestone and Winfield while dropping a match to Brewer. 

Faith Parker finished the week with 54 kills and 26 digs to lead the Lady Hawks, while Audrey Marshall added 41 kills, 37 digs and 19 aces. 

Priceville 

Thursday the Lady Bulldogs opened the season with losses to Central-Florence 2-1 (25-9, 21-25, 7-15) and Madison County 2-0 (18-25, 19-25).  

Saturday, Priveille picked up wins over 2A No. 3 Hatton 2-0 (25-18, 25-15) and Muscle Shoals 2-0 (25-15, 25-19) before falling to 5A No. 6 Lawrence County 2-0 (18-25, 23-25). 

Saturday stat leaders for the Lady Bulldogs were Zoey Benson with 25 kills, Katelyn Falciani with 22 kills, Emma Rehmer with 30 assists and Lacey Clark with 13 digs. Anna Catherine Clotfelder added eight blocks.
