Falkville reveals plans for annual fall festival

The Town of Falkville has announced plans for its 24th annual fall festival after canceling the popular event in 2020 because of the coronavirus.

The free community event will be staged in the main downtown area Oct. 9, with activities ranging from live entertainment and a color 5K run/walk race to food vendors, arts and crafts vendors and a tractor/car show. Festivities will get underway at 8 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.

“Our festival has attracted large crowds in the past, and we expect another big turnout this year,” said Mayor Ken Winkles. “We’re offering activities that will appeal to children as well as adults.

“It’s not about raising money for the town,” Winkles added. “Rather, it’s all about sponsoring an event that will get the people of the community to come out and enjoy themselves.”

The featured event of the festival will be an on-stage performance of the After Midtown Band, a country and pop group. They will perform around 10 a.m. Local musicians and singers will also perform.

The first event of the day will be a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Falkville Volunteer Fire Department. It will begin at 7 a.m. and continue as long as there are customers to be fed. Firefighters will do the cooking and serving. There will be no admission charge, but donations will be accepted.

Runners and walkers may register for the color run at the Town Hall. Each participant will receive a free fall festival T-shirt. The event will begin at 8 a.m.

Tractors and antique and classic cars will be in place for viewing between 9-10 a.m. Tractor operators will compete in slow man and blind man races, and children will compete in pedal car races.

Bingo will be offered in the Town Hall Auditorium beginning at 8 a.m. The event will be sponsored by the Falkville High School softball team.

As many as 75 food and arts and crafts vendors are expected, Winkles said.

Face masks will not be required.
