Morgan County Commissioner Randy Vest has been elected the 2021-2022 immediate past president and legislative committee chair of the Association of County Commissions of Alabama.

The ACCA is the statewide association representing Alabama’s 67 county governments.

After completing a one-year term as president of the ACCA, Vest assumed the new position during the ACCA’s 93rd Annual Convention held in August.

“I have learned more than I could have ever imagined about what it means to be an effective leader during my term as ACCA president,” Vest said. “I’m convinced my experiences have helped me become a better public servant to the people of Alabama and Morgan County as a result.

“During the coming year, I’m looking forward to continuing to foster positive growth by building upon strong relationships with leaders in all 67 counties and collaborating with members of the Alabama Legislature to improve the quality of life not only for our citizens in Morgan County but also for all individuals across Alabama.”

Prior to becoming the ACCA immediate past president and chair of the ACCA Legislative Committee, Vest served as the ACCA president, president-elect and vice president. He also served as a member of the inaugural class of the Association’s leadership program, PLAN, which stands for Passion, Leadership, Accountability and Networking.

ACCA Executive Director Sonny Brasfield said he remains wholly confident in Vest’s ability to continue serving the Association’s membership well.

“Through his dedication to problem-solving, his unwavering commitment to this Association and his positive attitude, Commissioner Vest has proven himself to be an effective leader and advocate for county government,” Brasfield said. “I am confident he will prove just as invaluable to the membership in his new role as he was during his year-long term as president.”

Vest was elected to the Morgan County Commission in 2010 and was re-elected in 2014 and again in 2018. Vest brings with him 30 years as a former small business owner of his family’s automotive repair shop and eight years as a former maintenance supervisor for an industrial coatings facility.

Additionally, Vest has been appointed to and served on a number statewide task forces, each focused on addressing various needs and issues at the local level.

The Association of County Commissions of Alabama is a statewide organization speaking for all 67 counties with one voice. It promotes improved county government services in Alabama, offers educational programs for county officials and their staff members, administers insurance programs for county governments and employees, offers legal advice and represents the interests of county government before state and federal organizations and agencies.
