The Falkville Town Council adjusted the policy it uses to compensate employees for overtime work at a regular meeting Nov. 1.
An employee’s option to choose comp time over overtime pay for up to 40 hours per year was reduced to 24 hours, after which employees in the utility, public works and office personnel departments will receive regular overtime pay.
Police department personnel are not affected since they already receive overtime pay for all work over 40 hours a week.
The change was approved unanimously after the issue was discussed at length during a work session before the regular meeting.
Mayor Ken Winkles said reducing the amount of comp time allowed will make it easier to get work done on a timely and consistent basis.
The council also:
- Amended the budget to include the Jack McCaig Park grant and overtime pay for office personnel.
- Approved the appointment of Danielle Hayes and the reappointment of David Carroll to the Cemetery Board and Shae Skinner, Marian Edmondson, Blair Woodall and Aaron Burgess to the Park & Recreation Board.
- Approved Sgt. Cody Hudgins to receive a step raise for completion of the taser instructor course.
- Approved payment of $3939.21 to Lexipol for records management software.
- Approved a three-year contract with Avenu Analytics for business license administration.
- Approved a $12,300 bid from Garnett’s Lawn Equipment for a Pro Turn 660 Gravely riding lawnmower.
