God, veterans made America

By Martha Jackson

Our faith in God and the bravery young men and women – who have fought and are still fighting – have given us the United States of America, and I am so very thankful.

Have you ever seen “Old Glory” waving high on the flagpole, blowing in the breeze, and reflected on just how blessed we are to live in America?

We all take for granted the freedoms we enjoy every day and the high price paid by our troops.

I just want to say thank you to all of our veterans and their families for the sacrifices they made and are still making so we can live our lives in a free country. God bless America always!

Area Church Activities

Shady Grove Baptist Church members are busy working on their Operation Christmas Child boxes, with a goal of filling 109 boxes. You can help by filling a box, donating items or donating money to purchase items.

Their collection week will be November 15-22. All donations will be greatly appreciated. Anyone interested can contact Monica Doherty for more details.

Nov. 13 Corinth West Baptist Church members met to deliver a Thanksgiving-type meal to 80 residents of the Piney Grove, Corinth West, Mt. Vernon, Macedonia and Battleground areas. Christie Guthrie was the head of the food project, and the president of the Corinth West Women’s group is Jessie Emerson.

Luke and Melanie led the youth at McKendree United Methodist Church at a lock-in, in Bible study and in doing tie-dye shirts. Everyone attending enjoyed the activities.

Church members from Corinth West Congregational Methodist will meet Nov. 20 to prepare fruit and goody baskets for senior citizens and shut-ins in the community.

The Rev. Micah Couch gave the Oct. 30 worship hour message at 11 a.m. The church members appreciated the community and area support for their Swamp John’s fundraiser.

The members of Round Top Community Church extend a thank you to everyone for supporting their Swamp John’s meal Nov. 5.

Brother Clint Lee and wife Deidra conducted the Cedar Plains Christian Church at Massey worship service Oct. 24. They also teach the Wednesday night Bible study.

Area Community News

Special care and concern are extended this week to Carolyn Besnyl after her bad fall at her home, as well as to Bill Owens, with wishes for better days ahead.

Summerford Nursing Home residents and staff enjoyed Halloween games, scary music and a movie Oct. 29. The “Culinary Capers” were enjoyed, and the aides prepared cupcakes, sandwiches, trick-or-treat bags and punch. The activities directors sang and danced. The costumes were clever and festive. Stuffed animals were awarded as prizes to the winners.
