Highway 36 bridge replacement begins this week
Special to the Enquirer
The Alabama Department of Transportation advises motorists that work began Dec. 14 to replace the nearby bridge at Gum Spring Creek.
ALDOT recently completed the project to replace the bridge on Alabama Highway 36 at Roan Branch, south of Somerville in Morgan County.
For this new bridge project, the area between Black Road and Cut-Off Road will remain closed to through traffic and accessible only to local traffic – that is, vehicles traveling to residences within the closure.
Local traffic will be able to enter the area from the east end of the project at Cut-Off Road; however, there will be no outlet at the west end of the project, as Alabama Highway 36 will be completely closed at the bridge, just east of Hobb Ward Road.
The official detour is Interstate 65 to Alabama Highway 67 for eastbound traffic and Alabama Highway 67 to Interstate 65 for westbound traffic.
Completion is anticipated in late summer or early fall of 2022. Miller & Miller is the contractor on the $2,622,688 project.
