HCS recognizes teachers, employees of year

At all six schools in the Hartselle City Schools district, teachers and support staff were surprised this past week when the “prize patrol” stopped by to name and recognize the teachers and employees of the year.  

This is the fourth year the prize patrol from the central office has made its rounds in December to surprise the deserving individuals.  

Amanda Godsey and SRO Officer Randy Adams were recognized at Barkley Bridge Elementary School. Godsey was also chosen as the Elementary District Teacher of the Year for Hartselle City Schools.  

Sophie Gillette and Tera Tapscott were the recipients of the awards at Crestline Elementary School.  

At F.E. Burleson, the prize patrol surprised Jessica Halverson and Natalie Bozeman.  

Suzanne Mozley and Yvonne Howard were chosen as the teacher and support staff member of the year at Hartselle Intermediate School.  

At Hartselle Junior High School, Christy Williams and Melanie Gentle were chosen for the honors.  

Ally McCaghren was selected as both the Hartselle High School teacher of the year and the Secondary District Teacher of the Year. Robin McCutcheon was given the honor of support staff member of the year.  

Staff members at each school chose who received each award, and of those winners, a committee determined the overall elementary and secondary district teachers of the year, according to Dena Mayfield, who was a part of the prize patrol.  

Mayfield said the elementary and secondary district teachers of the year
will submit an application packet for Alabama Teacher of the Year in January and have an opportunity to attend Blue Ribbon Conference with Superintendent Dr. Dee Dee Jones.  

“Congratulations to all of our recipients,” Jones said. “I want to thank them for making a difference in the lives of our students and staff.”
