Lady Tigers win three at Christmas Beach Bash
The Hartselle Lady Tigers traveled to the beach for a little sun and a lot of basketball to start their Christmas Break.
The Lady Tigers picked up wins over 5A No. 6 Guntersville, 7A No. 8 Foley and 5A No. 12 Pine Forest, Florida, in the tournament played at Gulf Shores High School.
Hartselle 55, Guntersville 51
The Lady Tigers opened up the Christmas Beach Bash against Guntersville.
The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 13-10 first-quarter lead behind eight points from Masyn Marchbanks. Gracie Hill added three, and Mary Frances Itsede had two.
In the second quarter, Guntersville responded by outscoring Hartselle 19-14 to lead 29-27 at the halftime break. Marchbanks’ nine points helped keep the Lady Tigers close.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Wildcats 16-11 in the third quarter to grab a 43-40 lead heading into the final quarter. Marchbanks led the way with six points, while Kaitlyn Hogan scored four and Hill added three.
Hartselle (8-5) finished the game by outscoring Guntersville 12-11 for the 55-51 win. Hill hit two threes to lead the Lady Tigers.
Marchbanks finished with a team-high 26 points. Hill added 12 points, while Itsede had nine and Hogan had six.
Olivia Vandergriff had a game-high 28 points to lead Guntersville (11-5).
Hartselle 61, Foley 44
Hartselle met Foley day two of the Christmas Beach Bash.
Marchbanks scored a game-high 27 points to lead Hartselle. Hill and Alyssa McMinemon each added nine points.
Hartselle 44, Pine Forest 42
The Lady Tigers met Pine Forest on the final day of the Bash. Hartselle overcame a 22-20 halftime deficit by outscoring Pine Forest 24-20 in the second half.
Marchbanks scored 21 points, including 14 in the second half, to lead the Lady Tigers. McMinemon added 10 points, while Karleigh Shipley had six, and Hill added five. Maggie McCleskey added two points.
