Lady Tigers winning streak hits 10 with win over Mae Jemison
The Hartselle Lady Tigers finished the 2021-22 regular season on a 10-game win streak with a 52-41 win on the road at Mae Jemison.
Hill hit two three-pointers in the first four minutes of the first quarter to help the Lady Tigers take an early 8-1 lead. The Lady Jaguars closed the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 9-8 lead into the second quarter.
Mae Jemison scored the first two points of the second quarter to extend that lead to 11-8. Hartselle responded with back-to-back three-pointers by Marchbanks and Maggie McCleskey to retake the lead at 14-11.
After a Lady Jaguars basket, Hill responded with her third three-pointer to give the Lady Tigers a 17-13 lead. Marchbanks then added a basket and free throw to push the lead to 20-13.
The teams traded baskets over the half’s closing minutes, with the Lady Tigers holding a 22-17 lead. Hartselle closed the quarter on a 5-0 run with a Marchbanks three-pointer and Hill layup to lead 27-17 at halftime.
Hartselle opened the third quarter with four of the first six points to extend their lead to 31-19; however, the Lady Jaguars dominated the rest of the quarter, outscoring the Lady Tigers 12-3 to cut the lead to three, 34-31, heading into the fourth quarter.
Mae Jemison cut the lead to one with the first basket of the final quarter, but Hartselle responded with a 12-0 run to turn a one-point lead into a 46-33 lead.
An 8-2 Lady Jaguars run cut the lead to 48-41.
Shipley and McCleskey hit four straight free throws to close out the game and the 52-41 victory.
Marchbanks led the Lady Tigers (22-6) with 25 points, including 14 in the final quarter. She also had four rebounds and five steals. Hill hit three three-pointers and scored 13 points. Shipley had eight points and two blocks.
