Church membership: fundamental to Christianity
By Todd Barrier
So far in our series on the Fundamentals of Christianity, we have looked at belief in the deity of Christ, belief in the inspiration of the Bible and recognition of the authority of scripture as our basic building blocks.
Today, we look at membership in His church as a fundamental aspect of Christianity.
How does one become a member of God’s church, which – according to Eph. 3:10-11 – was purposed by God throughout eternity? To find out, we go to His Word, which according to our previous studies is inspired and has authority over our lives.
We begin with faith, belief in who He is and that He has authority to tell us the way to call on Him, the way to live our lives!
In Romans 10:9-10 we are told to confess His name. We are told in Act 2:38 to repent and be baptized. In Romans 12:1-2 we are told to remain faithful and to live a godly life by not conforming to this world.
These verses show us what makes up becoming a member of His body. Being a member of His church is a fundamental aspect of Christianity.
Next week we will look at worship.
Have you joined His universal church?
