Are you worshiping in spirit, in truth?
By Todd Barrier
We have been looking at fundamentals of Christianity over the Past few weeks. So far, we have touched on the belief in the deity of Christ, the belief in the inspiration of the Bible, recognition of the authority of scripture and membership in His church.
Today we look at a big one: worship. Worship is commanded, and worship must be scriptural.
In John 4:24 we are told to worship Him in spirit and in truth. We find out how to do that by going to the scriptures.
God has always given detailed instructions, even in the Old Testament – see Genesis 4, Leviticus 10 and more – and the New Testament is no different. We are told to sing praises, or spiritual hymns and songs; to pray fervently; and to give an offering cheerfully, among other things.
The way we find out how to do these things in a proper manner is written out for us in the Bible. Study of His Word will help us worship in spirit and in truth, just as He has commanded us.
For our foundation to be strong, we must worship scripturally. Are you worshiping in spirit and in truth?
