“A Discovery of Witches” follows the increasingly complicated life of the witch Diana Bishop.
She is a historian who is researching the history of alchemy. In her pursuit, she is able to call a hidden book from the depths of the Bodleian Library. This book hasn’t been seen or read in centuries.
Upon the release of the book, Diana starts being stalked by all manner of creatures. Only one creature doesn’t intend to harm Diana. Mathew De Clairmont, an old vampire, seeks to convince Diana to give him the book; however, they complicate their lives further by falling in love, even though relations between their species are forbidden.
This novel is full of adventure and romance. The two main characters must find a way to be together.
This book illustrates how difficult it is to go against societal pressures and expectations. It is great for readers who love forbidden romance and the adventure that comes with it.
This title is available in the library and on the Libby app. Additionally, this series has been made into a TV show, and season one is available on Hoopla.
Bree Nicholls is busy: with her canine search-and-rescue business, with the training school she just opened and with spending as much time with her son as possible. So, when she finds a body in her basement, she is at a loss as to who it could be or how and when it got there.
The police are investigating – but everyone knows Bree can’t not get involved.
As if that weren’t enough to deal with, her best friend’s wedding is interrupted by gunshots. People suspect the shooter is Quentin, the man who was arrested for domestic violence and kidnapping but got away. He’s been in hiding and sending threatening messages to Bree for helping his wife.
This little town has a lot going on: all of this plus a house fire, burglaries and a group of kids breaking into some cabins in the woods – one of whom is the sister of Bree’s boyfriend Kade. She found a photo of Bree and her son in one of the cabins with a red circle around their faces.
Bree has to find out who her enemies are before they get to her and her family.
