Former Hartselle councilman found shot to death in home

A former Hartselle councilman was found dead in his home this past week, and his son-in-law is in the Morgan County Jail charged with his murder.

Hartselle police responded to a harassment complaint at the residence on Bonnie Dale Lane NW April 26 around 4:30 p.m. Investigators found Frank Jones, 84, dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside the home.

Jones’s son-in-law and caregiver, Herbert Thompson, Jr., 74, was arrested and charged with murder. He is in the Morgan County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.

Jones served one term on the Hartselle City Council from 2000-2004.
