The Falkville Town Council approved an amendment to the town’s zoning ordinance increasing the minimum amount for which a building permit is required from $500 to $1,000.
No one spoke for or against the proposed fee adjustment during a public hearing, which preceded a call for a vote at a regular meeting June 6.
A building permit is required for the construction of any building, including accessory structures, exceeding $1,000 in cost.
The council acted on other agenda items as follows:
- An ordinance was introduced authorizing expenditures of public funds for certain public events including festivals, picnics, concerts and other public events
- The mayor was authorized to enter into a contract with Donald Walker to paint a mural on a privately owned building at Grissom Way and U.S. Highway 31 at a cost of $6,500. Two grants totaling $4,500 have been received to help with the cost
- A resolution was approved to amend the town’s personnel policy by allowing employees to receive incentives and awards to recognize exemplary performance or innovations that reduce costs or result in improvements in services to the public
- Authorized the renewal of Park & Recreation liability and accidental insurance for all sports except football in the amount of $2,291.60
- Conducted a public hearing and approved the rezoning of the Sanders property at 3701 East Pike Road and 18 Grissom Way from B-1 to R-l
- Approved a street repair on Sivley Drive, East Main Street and Second Street by Jones Brothers for approximately $4,520
- Agreed to pay Peebles Oil Company the appraised value for their property for the Buster Road Project
