Basic instruction from God’s word
By Todd Barrier
I remember the first time I ever preached a sermon; I was so nervous and excited. I lived in Orlando, Fla. at the time and was helping my church with their nursing home ministry. I began the sermon and thought things were going well.
All of a sudden, a woman stood up and raised her hand. I thought I had said something wrong and didn’t know what to expect. I stopped and called on her and she simply said the following “Bible, B.I.B.L.E. Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth, I just wanted to say that.” I thanked her and went on with the sermon. Thinking back, she was absolutely right. The Bible gives us the basics on how to live a good and righteous life while on earth, to prepare us for eternity.
So many Bible verses give us that basic instruction.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”
Luke 11:28 says “But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it.”
John 8:31-32 says “So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
