Are you a good steward?
By Todd Barrier
In Luke 16:11, the parable of the unjust steward is coming to a close. In this verse Jesus asks …”Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true [riches]?
In the preceding verses, Jesus told a story about a man who had not taken great care of the things his master left him. Now the master had come to ask the steward to give an account. The parable teaches us that if we can’t or won’t be good stewards of the physical blessings God has given to us, we won’t be good stewards of the much more important spiritual blessings we have. We should be preparing for our eternal future where we have to give an account to God. We spend a lot of time preparing for our future here on earth, but need to pay more attention to our eternal destination.
The parable also reminds us we can’t have two masters. We either love God or love the world, whichever one we are committed to will lessen our time and devotion to the other. Are you putting God first and being a good steward of the things He has blessed you with?
