Prayer vigil to be held for injured Hartselle officer
A prayer vigil will be held for the injured Hartselle officer who is still in the hospital after suffering an injury while on patrol July 15.
Sgt. Lynn Dean was patrolling a church in the early morning hours when he encountered a dog. Authorities said Dean either tripped over the dog or was attacked. He sustained a fractured skull in the incident and is recovering in the hospital.
Lt. Alan McDearmond said Dean is improving.
The prayer vigil will be held July 22 from 7-9 p.m. at the Hartselle Municipal Building located at 611 Chestnut St.
Additionally, a GoFundMe has been started to benefit the Dean family while the sergeant is recovering. Nearly 80 donors have raised $5,300 of a $15,000 goal.
“Sgt. Dean is a highly dedicated public servant; this is our way to give back for the many years he has helped us,” the GoFundMe post reads. “The funds will help his wife and children with expenses while he is away from work. It will also help with any costs they have while traveling to be with him.”
