Hartselle’s Fields named Jacksonville State’s women’s golf coach

Jacksonville State University has hired Robbie Fields as their first women’s golf head coach in program history.

Previously, the women’s golf team was coached by James Hobbs, who also coached the men’s team. Hobbs recently retired after 45 years of coaching both teams. He started the women’s program in 1995.

“We’re excited for Robbie Fields to take over our women’s golf program here at Jacksonville State and for him to add to the continued success that we have become accustomed to under Coach Hobbs,” JSU Athletics Director Greg Seitz said in the school’s press release. “It became evident early on that he was the right person to hand over our women’s golf team to, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our players – on the field and in the classroom.”

Fields comes from East Carolina, where he served as the Pirates’ women’s golf assistant coach for the past three seasons. He spent one season at Mississippi State before his stint at East Carolina.

“I want to thank Greg Seitz and the entire JSU athletic department for the opportunity to serve JSU and the Jacksonville community as the Head Women’s Golf Coach,” Fields said in the school’s press release. “I would also like to thank CC Buford and everyone at ECU for encouraging and preparing me for this position. We certainly had some fun along the way. I am excited to build on the excellence that Coach Hobbs established and am eager to get to work with our student-athletes.”

Fields is a 2014 graduate of Hartselle High School and a 2019 graduate of Mississippi State University. He has several PGA Golf Management certifications and was the recipient of the 2017 PGA Golf Management Joe Assell Leadership and the 2018 PGA Golf Management Dr. S. Roland Jones Student-of-the-Year Awards. He was also a member of the 2018 PGA Jones Cup Team.
