Board approves construction team for new Crestline Elementary

A letter of intent with the construction company that will build the next Crestline Elementary School has been approved by the Hartselle City Schools Board of Education, and according to board member Randy Sparkman, the contract will be signed this week.

Bailey-Harris Construction based in Auburn will build the 100,000 square-foot building that will carry a price tag of $36 million.

The new school will provide classrooms to accommodate more than 1,000 pre-kindergarten to fourth grade students. It will also include a separate drop-off for pre-k students, students with special needs and an enhanced carline capacity. The facility and site are designed to enable the addition of additional classrooms in the future.

With subdivisions being built on Garner and East Byrd roads in Hartselle that will bring nearly 1,000 rooftops to Hartselle, Sparkman said the board has been preparing for the growth coming to the area and the influx of students coming to HCS.

“We are thrilled to begin work on the new school and we are confident we have a great construction partner,” Sparkman said. “We are working to keep facilities updated, anticipate growth and focus on maximizing instructional opportunities for (our students.)”

Bailey-Harris will begin mobilizing on-site in the next two weeks, Sparkman said. A groundbreaking will follow in September, but it has yet to be scheduled.

Sparkman said the district is saving costs in negotiated site preparation and because the building will be built on land the school system already owns. The new Crestline Elementary will be located along Crestline Drive and Frost Street.

Traffic on Crestline Drive and Frost Street will be impacted by the construction that is slated to continue through summer 2024. The new school is scheduled to open in August 2024.
