Down Memory Lane celebrates history of First Christian Church
Special to the Enquirer
The Hartselle Historical Society invites the public to learn more about one of Hartselle’s oldest churches during Down Memory Lane Sept. 12 from 6-7:30 p.m.
The event will be held at First Christian Church, located at 209 Main Street East where the church has stood for 100 years. A tour of the building and displays will begin at 6:15 p.m. Refreshments will be provided in the basement.
“If you are one of many people who pass this church several times a week and would like to see inside this beautiful building with special stained-glass windows, now is your time to walk inside and hear its history,” Bettye English, who is a part of the Hartselle Historical Society, said. “It has stood as a very stately looking structure to greet those entering our east side of town for over 100 years.”
First Christian Church was founded in 1881 with the meeting of the seven-member congregation in a frame building on the south end of Milner Street. The present building was erected in 1922. An elevator is located next to handicap parking at the rear of the building.
