The Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), in conjunction with the Sons of the American Revolution, Decatur’s VFW Post 4190 and Boy Scout troops, conducted its annual flag retirement ceremony for North Alabama this past Saturday. Representatives from area chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution were also present. The ceremonial presentation and burning of tattered and unusable U.S. flags is conducted to demonstrate proper disposal of the national colors based on guidance from the U.S. flag code. All members of the C.A.R. are bloodline descendants of Revolutionary War Patriots.
