The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office will hold a free citizen’s academy Dec. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to allow citizens to learn about office operations.
Those attending will learn more about patrols, investigations, narcotics, corrections, courts, school resource programs and the special victim’s unit.
“(The course) is a way to bring people in and let them understand what we do, how we do it and why we do it,” said Mike Swafford, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office public information officer. “It also gives people a deep dive into how the sheriff’s office is funded and where the funding goes.”
The course Dec. 6 is the basic course. An advanced course will also be available, but dates for it have not yet been set.
Finishing the course allows graduates to volunteer with jail operations at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
Applications can be found on the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page and website, or at bit.ly/MSCOAcademyRegistration.
