Lady Tigers win two following the Christmas break
The Hartselle Lady Tigers picked up wins over 7A Albertville and Franklin County (TN) following the Christmas break.
Hartselle was led by Hannah Burks, who averaged 13 points per game during the two games. Gracie Hill added 11 points per game.
“This team competes and plays hard every game and has found ways to win,” Hartselle coach Amber Deline said. “We are still a young team who is learning new things every game.”
Hartselle 51, Franklin County (TN) 48 (OT)
Hartselle picked up a hard-fought 51-48 overtime win over the Franklin County Rebelettes at the Border Wars Invitational at Athens High School.
The Lady Tigers trailed 7-6 after the first quarter and 18-16 at halftime. They took a 28-27 lead into the fourth quarter. The teams went into overtime, tied at 39-39.
Mary Itsede finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead Hartselle to the win.
Emma Roden had 11 points and three assists, while Gracie Hill and Hannah Burks added 10 points each. Burks, who also had six rebounds, scored seven of her 10 points in overtime, including the Lady Tigers’ first five points.
NaKayjah Holman scored a game-high 19 points for Franklin County.
Hartselle 57, Albertville 31
Hartselle ran past 7A Albertville 57-31 at the Supreme Courts Christmas Tournament in Guntersville. The Lady Tigers led 20-9 after the first quarter and 35-16 at halftime.
Burks scored a career-high 16 points to lead Hartselle to the victory. She scored 11 of her 16 after halftime following the exit of Hill, who was injured early in the third quarter.
Hill added 12 points and three steals. Ella Springer had eight points, while Anna Hampton Burroughs scored seven and dished out five assists.
Dana Fuentes and Ava Teague had six points each for Albertville.
