Standouts of the week
It was another exciting week of baseball, softball and soccer in the Hartselle area. Below are some of the standouts for the week ending March 18.
Softball
Blayne Godfrey, Hartselle: Godfrey no-hit 6A No. 2 Athens in Hartselle’s 7-0 victory. She struck out 11 in seven innings. She struck out 11 in the Tigers’ 5-1 win over Muscle Shoals.
Bentley Black, Priceville: Black hit two home runs and drove in five runs in Priceville’s 15-5 win over Good Hope.
Bronwyn Borden, Brewer: Borden picked up two wins after pitching 11 innings in the Lady Patriots’ two wins last week. She struck out a combined 23 batters.
Cheyanne Lucas, Brewer: Lucas had four hits, including two doubles and a home run, five RBI and three runs scored in Brewer’s 12-0 win over Holly Pond.
Kaelyn Jones, Hartselle: Jones finished the week with seven hits, five stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs scored in three Hartselle victories.
Katie Norgard, Hartselle: Norgard had two hits, including a home run, and two RBI in Hartselle’s 7-0 victory over No. 2 Athens.
Baseball
Jack Smith, Hartselle: Smith struck out a career-high 13 batters in Hartselle’s 3-0 victory over Hazel Green.
Cade Miles, Hartselle: Miles was responsible for all of the Tigers’ runs in Hartselle’s 3-0 victory over Hazel Green. He hit a two-run home run and scored two runs.
Nic Chumley, Hartselle: Chumley pitched a complete game, one-hitter in Hartselle’s 10-0 win over Hazel Green.
Coleman Mizell, Hartselle: Mizell had three hits, including a three-run home run, and four RBI in Hartselle’s 13-1 win over Jasper.
JoJo Williamson, Hartselle: Williamson had two hits, including a home run, two RBI and two runs scored in Hartselle’s 13-1 win over Jasper.
Peyton Steele and Andrew Coleman, Hartselle: The duo combined to no-hit Jasper in Hartselle’s 13-1 victory.
Zach Chaney, Priceville: Chaney had five doubles, six RBI, and five runs scored in Priceville’s three-game sweep of Haleyville.
Thomas Kerby, Priceville: Kerby struck out a career-high 15 over seven innings in Priceville’s 11-0 win over Haleyville.
Caden Burnett, Falkville: Burnett had three hits and four RBI while allowing one run in 5 ⅓ innings while striking out nine in Falkville’s 10-5 victory over Vinemont.
Lane Owen, Brewer: Owen pitched a complete game and struck out 10 in Brewer’s 14-3 win over Brindlee Mountain.
Gage Taylor, Danville: Taylor had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI in Danville’s 8-6 win over Clements.
Soccer – Boys
Owen Bennich, Hartselle: Bennich scored two goals in Hartselle’s 3-0 win over Athens and two in the Tigers’ 10-0 win over East Limestone.
Slate Gargus, Hartselle: Gargus scored four goals in the first half of the Tigers’ 10-0 win over East Limestone.
Nick Vaughn, Hartselle: Vaughn recorded his fourth and fifth shutout of the season in Hartselle’s 3-0 win over Athens and 10-0 win over East Limestone. He also scored a goal in the East Limestone win.
Soccer – Girls
Layla Sherrill, Danville: Sherrill scored four goals and had an assist in the Lady Hawks’ 10-0 win over JB Pennington.
Maddie Sherrill, Danville: Sherrill scored two goals and had an assist in the Lady Hawks’ 10-0 win over JB Pennington.
AK Hopkins, Priceville: Hopkins scored three goals in Priceville’s 6-1 win over West Morgan.
