What’s in a name?
By Todd Barrier
Names mean a lot. How do people react when they hear your name? Would it be a positive or a negative? The Bible reminds us that having a good name is a very precious thing (Eccl. 7:1.) In fact, it compares it to precious ointment.
For something to be considered precious it has to have certain attributes. Some of those attributes are quality of ingredients, rarity, flexibility and transparency. For the Christian, transparency may be the most important when it comes to keeping a good reputation. People should be able to see right through us. No matter what is happening when someone sees us coming, they should know exactly what they are getting.
In 2 Cor. 6:3-10, the Bible explains how blessed we are, and how blessed we should see ourselves, no matter the situation. Keeping a good attitude and treating people well no matter the situation will let people clearly see Jesus shining through in your life. When that happens, the name you carry will be considered precious.
