Hartselle’s fifth annual Serve Day coming soon

Service projects throughout Hartselle will be bustling as the city hosts its fifth annual Serve Day July 15.  

Since 2019, Serve Day has become a yearly summer staple for Hartselle, connecting the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Cohort with hundreds of community volunteers to help improve the Hartselle area around them in a number of ways. 

In years past, Serve Day has been an opportunity to improve schools, beloved community sites, and other areas in need of attention. Utilizing the day’s eager volunteers, the event can simultaneously focus on a number of service projects throughout the city. 

“We’ve rebuilt floors for families, we’ve landscaped, weeded, mulched, painted,” explained Jenny Denton, who, along with Ashley Thompson, serves as project coordinator for this year’s activities. “We’ve built porches, handicap porches, handicap ramps. I mean, we’ve done a lot of stuff.” 

Serve Day volunteers typically sign up in advance at their own individual organizations, and already know which projects they will be working on when the day arrives. However, those who are looking to get involved or receive assistance can still reach out to either fill a need or have their need met. 

“If people are interested, they can show up that day, and we may have some miscellaneous jobs that we didn’t plan for,” Denton noted. “We can always use help in finding areas for people to help. And if there’s any projects or people in the community that need something, if they can get ahold of us and let us know we may be able to get those accomplished as well.” 

Serve Day will begin with a kickoff breakfast and pep rally at the Chamber before groups break off to begin working on their designated jobs for the day. 

“Our goal is for our community to come together to give back to those that are unable to do some of these projects on their own,” Denton explained.  

Event sponsors this year will include East Highland Baptist Church, Family Security Credit Union, Habitat for Humanity of Morgan County, Hartselle First Assembly of God, Thompson Homes, Hagen Homes, Champion Air Systems LLC, and  Corum’s Building & Farm Center.
