Enquirer names boys all-sports team
Sports fans in Morgan County have been blessed to witness great athletes over the years. This season, the group of boys athletes has been impressive, with multiple state championships and college offers.
The Enquirer Boys All-Sports Team
Adam “Woody” Taylor, SR: Priceville track & field
Taylor has signed with the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
He won three state championships at the 2023 outdoor state championships, including the 400m, 800m and 1600m. He ran the fastest 800 in state history for 4A and had the fastest time for the 2023 meet. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2023 championships. He also won the 800m indoor at the indoor state championships.
Jack Smith, SR: Hartselle football and baseball
Smith has signed with the University of Arkansas to play baseball.
Smith led his football team to a 12-1 record and a trip to the 6A state quarterfinals. He passed for 2,480 yards and 21 TDs while rushing for 557 yards and 12 TDs. He helped lead the Tigers baseball team to a 30-10 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals. He finished 8-2 with one save this season. He compiled an ERA of .936 while striking out 120 batters in 67.1 innings. He pitched a perfect game in the first round of the playoffs and followed that up with a no-hitter in the second round.
Owen Bennich, JR: Hartselle soccer
Bennich helped lead the Tigers to the second round of the 6A state playoffs. He finished his junior year with a school-record 32 goals and 13 assists. He was named 1st team All-State and will play in the North/South All-Star game.
Cole Lindeman, SR: Priceville basketball and golf
Lindeman has signed with Wallace State Community College to play golf.
Lindeman won the 4A section championship and then shot an even-par 72 to advance to the state championships. He finished 6th at the 4A state championships. He averaged 15.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.7 steals per game to lead the Bulldogs basketball team.
Isaiah Warnick, SR: Falkville football and basketball
Warnick was named 2A 1st team All-State following his senior season. He finished with 54 receptions for 1,215 yards and 18 TDs on offense while finishing with a state high of 12 interceptions in two returned for touchdowns and 118 tackles. He also had two kickoff returns for TDs. He led the Blue Devils basketball team with 13.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Coleman Mizell, SR: Hartselle baseball
Mizell has signed with the University of Alabama to play baseball
Mizell finished the 2023 season with a .500 average with 64 hits, 58 RBI, 45 runs scored and 15 home runs.
Caden Burnett, SR: Falkville football and baseball
Burnett passed for 2,317 yards and 28 TDs while rushing for 582 yards and 11 TDs to help lead the Blue Devils to the second round of the 2A state playoffs. He finished with a .610 batting average with 58 hits while going a perfect 27 of 27 in stolen bases.
Mason Cartee, SR: Priceville football
Cartee helped lead the Bulldogs to an 11-1 record and the second round of the 4A state playoffs. He rushed for 1,412 yards and scored 19 TDs. He had eight 100-yard games.
Eli Tidwell, SR: Hartselle football and baseball
Tidwell has signed with Northwest-Shoals Community College to play baseball.
He had 54 receptions for 1,014 yards and 11 touchdowns to help the Tigers to a 12-1 record and a trip to the third round of the playoffs. He finished with a .313 batting average with 46 hits, 41 runs scored, 22 RBI and 15 stolen bases to help the Tigers baseball team to the 6A state quarterfinals.
Gage Taylor, SR: Danville football, basketball and baseball
Taylor had 40 receptions for 685 yards and seven TDs while rushing for 557 yards and two TDs to lead the Hawks to the 3A state playoffs. He finished with a .506 batting average with 31 stolen bases, 29 runs scored and 27 RBI. He also had eight doubles and five triples.
Parker Carlton, JR: Brewer Soccer
Carlton finished with 31 goals and nine assists to lead the Patriots to the state playoffs. He was named to the 5A All-State second team and the 2023 Morgan County All-Tournament Team.
