Enquirer names girls all-sports team
Sports fans in Morgan County have been blessed to witness great athletes through the years. This season, the group of female athletes has been impressive, with a state championship and multiple college offers.
The Enquirer girls’ all-sports team
Jinger Heath, SR: Hartselle Golf
Heath has signed with Jacksonville State University
She won the 6A individual state championship in her fourth trip to the AHSAA state championships. She shot a 7-under 137 to win the championship by four strokes. She entered 13 tournaments this past season and won 11 of them. She finished second in the other two.
Bentley Black, SR: Priceville Softball
She helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to a school-record 40 wins during the 2023 season. In 48 games, she finished with a .484 batting average with 61 hits, 16 doubles, nine home runs and five triples. She scored 64 runs and had 62 RBI, while going 18-of-18 in steals.
Layla Sherrill, FR: Danville Soccer
The freshman led her team with 29 goals and four assists.
Blayne Godfrey, JR: Hartselle Softball
Godfrey has committed to Auburn University.
The junior helped lead her team to an area championship and a trip to the North Regional. She finished 16-11 on the mound with a 2.10 ERA and 274 strikeouts. She eclipsed the 1,000 strikeout mark for her career. She hit .327 with five home runs and 31 RBI.
Ellie Cate Hill, JR: Falkville Basketball
The junior led her team with 18.4 points per game, scoring 553 points. She also averaged 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. She hit 124 three-pointers.
Leslie Hames, SO: Priceville Basketball
The sophomore helped lead the Lady Bulldogs to the 4A State Championship game for the first time in school history. She averaged 18.2 points per game, scoring 546 points. She hit 120 three-pointers and had 89 steals.
