School board to appoint next member after Jones resigns
The Hartselle City School board will soon appoint its next member to fill the vacant seat left by Venita Jones who resigned July 25.
Board president Dr. James Joy said the board received 24 applications for the open position. Applications were accepted through Aug. 11.
The appointed person will finish Jones’s term that expires November 2025.
Joy said there is no formal procedure to follow when making the decision.
“We have 45 days to fill that (position) and if we don’t I think the city council would do it for us,” Joy said. “There’s no specific rule for how we do it.”
Joy said he and his fellow board members will meet for a work session at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 15. at the central office.
“I’d like to think we will be able to narrow it down and make that selection after we see what everyone thinks,” Joy added.
The board, according to Joy, has until Sept. 7 to make an appointment.
