Lady Tigers race past Athens, Austin to close regular season
Hartselle opened Senior Night with Athens on a 31-0 run and cruised to a 71-19 win. The Lady Tigers led 12-0 after the first quarter and scored the first 19 points of the second quarter to finish the run. After an Athens three-pointer, Hartselle scored the half’s final nine points to lead 40-3 at the break. The Lady Tigers outscored the Golden Eagles 31-16 in the second half to complete the win.
“I am proud of how my team played,” coach Amber Deline said. “I am especially proud of my two seniors, Anna Claire (Gladden) and Sophie (Estep), who played the best game of their careers.”
Anna Claire Gladden finished with a career-high 18 points and nine rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers (17-6). Sophie Estep added 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Hannah Burks had 10 points, while Gracie Hill scored nine points. Mary Frances Itsede finished with six points and eight rebounds.
Hartselle girls 64, Austin 43
The Lady Tigers scored a season-high 22 points in the first quarter on their way to a 64-43 win over 7A Austin. They led 39-23 at halftime and 51-29 heading into the final quarter.
Burks tied her career-high with 27 points to lead Hartselle. Itsede added nine points and seven rebounds, while Burroughs had nine points, six assists and five steals. Ella Springer finished with eight points.
Destiny Acklin led Austin with 11 points, while Memiye Deen scored 10 points.
Jasper girls 51, Hartselle 50
Hartselle jumped out to a 20-12 first-quarter lead but couldn’t hold on in a 51-50 loss to 5A No. 1 Jasper. The Lady Vikings cut the lead to 28-23 at halftime. They outscored the Lady Tigers 13-8 in the third quarter to tie the game at 36-36 heading into the final quarter.
Burks led Hartselle with 13 points and four rebounds, while Gracie Hill had 12 points and three steals. Anna Hampton Burroughs added eight points and four assists, while Itsede finished with seven points and 10 rebounds.
