Lady Tigers roll past Huntsville on senior night
The Hartselle Lady Tigers celebrated the careers of five seniors in the best way possible: a 10-0 shutout of Huntsville. The five seniors are Auburn signee Blayne Godfrey, Wallace State signee Kaelyn Jones, Brooklyn Stiles, Chloe Gray and Sofia Hudson.
Hartselle started scoring in the first inning with RBIs from Brityan Godfrey, Blayne Godfrey and Katie Norgard. Norgard had a two-run home run to account for her RBIs.
Brityan added to her RBI total in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run, driving Katie Gillott and herself home.
Ryley Cate Wolf hit the Lady Tigers’ third two-run home run in the third to put Hartselle up 8-0. KJ Prater scored on the play.
Norgard added another RBI in the fourth inning, driving home VK Hoyle to make the score 9-0. The Lady Tigers capped off the scoring in the fifth on a Brityan Godfrey single that drove home Kaelyn Jones.
Blayne Godfrey picked up the win with a complete-game shutout. She allowed four hits in five innings while striking out seven.
Brityan Godfrey finished 4-for-4 with three RBIs. She had a home run and a double. Her sister Blayne also finished 4-for-4. She added two RBIs and had two doubles. Norgard finished with three RBIs, while Wolf added two and Jones had one.
Hewitt-Trussville 4, Hartselle 0
Earlier in the week, the Lady Tigers fell 4-0 to visiting Hewitt-Trussville. The Lady Huskies scored two runs in the third and added two more in the fifth to get the win. Hartselle was held to just one hit, a single by Blayne Godfrey. Kenlee Smothers took the loss after allowing four runs in four innings. She struck out three.
