Horace Plemons

Hartselle Funeral service for Horace Plemons, 95, will be Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 3:00PMatNewCenterBaptist Church with Bro. Ben Bates and Son-in-law: Dr. Pat Campbell officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in New Center Cemetery. Mr. Plemons passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Columbia Cottage. He was born January 9, 1929, at his home in the New Center Community in Morgan County, to Virgil Noah Plemons and Azubah Speegle Plemons.

Horace was a World War II veteran and had an active life until his heath wouldn’t allow. He was a member of New Center Baptist Church and loved attending the Somerville Senior Center. Horace competed in the Senior Olympic Games, winning more gold, silver and bronze medals than you could count. He played 3 on 3, and 4 on 4 Basketball and shot free throws, played badminton, shuffleboard and other games, but basketball was his game. He played full court basketball up until the age of 90. His favorite hobby was fishing and as long his health allowed, he would fish year round. Horace was blessed to keep his own yard mowed and cleaned up until last fall. Horace was an avid Alabama football fan. He would be quick to tell you that God had truly blessed him! He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia; a son, Richard Edward Plemons Sr.; two daughters, Venita Faye Campbell and Linda Sue Hoppe; brothers, Frankie, Doyle, Harold, Glen and Hugh Plemons and his parents. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Frances Halbrooks Plemons; daughter, Cindy Shaw (Al); stepsons, Jimmie Halbrooks (Bonnie), Tommy Halbrooks (Amy), Geoff Halbrooks (Lisa) and Pat Halbrooks (Kristy); stepdaughter, Kay Tersigni; sister, Faye Ballentine (Dennis); 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; onegreat great-grandchild; 17 step-grandchildren; 35 step great-grandchildren and six step great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Family requests, in lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the New Center Baptist Church building fund.
