The Spirit of America

In a few days, the firework stands will be taken down and the remaining pyrotech nics will be stored away for another year. The holiday will be over. We will go back to work and the 4th of July will be forgotten. But we must not forget the reason for its celebration. With the changing demographics of our nation, there are those who do not know or have forgotten certain principles that draw us together in the greatest nation on earth.

We are a freedom-loving people. History books are full of the stories of those who were willing to sacrifice their lives in order that America might be founded upon the principle that it should be the land of the free.

Freedom is in our national DNA. Every generation has had those who were willing to fight to preserve that freedom for us.

We are a patriotic people. We stand to salute the flag and pledge allegiance to that for which it stands. When necessary, the best of our young men and women have marched off to war under its banner. It waves over the graves of those who died in battle. We display it over our federal buildings, public buildings, and schools as a symbol of our unity.

We are a nation of people many of whom have dedicated themselves to serving in civic offices of our cities and states caring for the mundane tasks of keeping the government functioning to provide the many services required for society. These also include peace officers, firemen, teachers, and other public servants.

We are blessed with both the privilege to vote and the responsibility to cast it.

We are a people who have a reverence for that which is sacred. We strongly believe in the freedom to worship. We may not be uniform in the practice of our faith, but we respect the faith of others and their right to worship as led by the spirit.

With all the confusion in the land and the influx of millions of people from so many countries in such a short time who have little or no concept of democracy, we worry about the changes rapidly taking place. With their presence and influence drastic changes are coming about. Many have no concept of our history. Will we lose our spirit of freedom?

May God bless America and preserve the freedoms that generations have sacrificed to obtain.
