Arnold D. Melson
Danville Funeral service for Arnold D. Melson, 96, will be Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard Sport officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Aldridge Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Melson died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at his residence. He was born July 7, 1928, in Lawrence County, to George Harvey Melson and Nancy Jane McVay Melson. Mr. Melson was a farmer and loved farming. He was a simple man, who never forgot his roots and was a member of the Danville Church of Christ. Mr. Melson served in the United States Army National Guard on active duty during the Korean War.
He married the love of his life on May 13, 1952, and was married for 72 years. He and his wife, Shelby, loved visiting the Great Smoky Mountains and traveling across the country to Kenny Rogers concerts.
His family wishes to extend special thanks to Hospice of the Valley, especially Lunden Brown and Mary Hill, and to Dr. Micah Howard and his staff and Ellen Flowers Sapp for her loving care and support.
Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, George Harvey “G.H.” Melson, Jr., Howard Kay Melson and Bonnie Edward Melson, and four sisters, Azline Melson, Irene Melson, Bessie Sutton and Eddie Mae Whitlock.
Survivors include his wife, Shelby Livingston Melson and his daughter, Karen Melson.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Melson, Buddy Oliver, Steve Whitlock, Matt Raley, James Nicholson, and A.D. Halbrooks. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Williams, Jerry Randolph, and Billy Melson.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested Memorial donations be made to the Panama Missions Water Filter Project, P.O. Box 451, Hope Hull, AL 35643.
