A Graveside Funeral service for John F. Mitchell, 79, and interment was held Friday, November 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Roselawn Cemetery with Pastor Mike Pope officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Mitchell passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024, at his residence. He was born April 14, 1945, in Morgan County, to Oscar Mitchell and Mary Powell Mitchell. He grew up in Hartselle and attended Morgan County High School. He attended and was member of First Methodist Church of Hartselle.
John attended Marion Military Institution and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He was the owner of John Mitchell Construction and was a member of and served as Vice President and President of the Morgan County Home Builders Association. He was an Alabama State Licensed Contractor. He also was a member of The Sons of the American Legion, the Chamber of Commerce and a supporter of the Alabama Boys Ranch. His parents, Oscar and Mary Mitchell; a brother, Roy Mitchell; and sons, John F. Mitchell, Jr. and Christopher Hodges Mitchell, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Whatley Mitchell; daughter, Laura Sharp (Reggie); grandchildren, Brody Sharp, Mallie Sharp, and Jacob Rogers; sisters, Sharon Thomson and Marilyn Hinkle; nephew, Logan Hinkle (Stacy); nieces, Ashley Hinds (Bobby), Beth Cooper (Travis) and Christy Mizell Dobbs.
