Lady Tigers cruise to wins over Brewer, Springville

The Hartselle Lady Tigers cruised through two opponents last week in picking up two wins to improve to 4-0 on the season. They opened the week with a 65-34 win over Springville and then ran past Brewer 71-34 this past Thursday.
“I thought we played well against both teams,” coach Amber Deline said. “We are having players step up at different times and that is what we need. We still have some kinks to work out but I am proud of the girls. They are working well together, and they are a great group to coach.”

The Lady Tigers took a 17-5 first quarter lead behind Hannah Burks who finished with 10 points in the quarter. They continued to pull away in the second quarter, outsourcing the Lady Patriots 21-8 to extend their lead to 38-13 at the halftime break. Karson Boyer had eight points in the quarter, as a total of six players scored in the period for Hartselle.
The third quarter saw seven players score points as the Lady Tigers outscored Brewer 20-10 in the period to extend the lead to 58-23. Burks had six points to lead Hartselle in scoring in the quarter. The final quarter was the closest of the game as the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Patriots 13-11 to make the final score 71-34.
Burks led Hartselle with 20 points and four steals, while Boyer finished with a career-high 17 points, five rebounds and three steals. Elsie Boyd added seven points, while Anna Hampton Burroughs and Mary Frances Itsede each had six. Burroughs also had a career-high 11 rebounds, including seven offensive rebounds to lead Hartselle on Thursday.
Madisyn Freeman led Brewer with nine points, while Keylyn Stapler added six.
Hartselle 65, Springville 34 Hartselle cruised to a 65-34 win over Springville in the Veterans Day Classic at Wallace State last Monday.
Burroughs scored eight points to help the Lady Tigers jump out to a 22-9 first quarter lead over Springville. Itsede added six points in building the 13-point lead.
Hartselle added 22 more points in the second quarter extending their lead to 44-21 at the half. Burks led the way with 10 points in the quarter.
The third quarter was a tight one as the Lady Tigers outscored Springville 13-10 to extend their lead to 57-31. Itsede had six points in the quarter.
Itsede and Boyd each scored four points in the final quarter as Hartselle, playing with a running clock, outscored Springville 8-3 to make the final score 65-34.
Itsede led the Lady Tigers with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Boyd added 14 points, four steals and three assists, while Burks had 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Burroughs finished with nine points, seven rebounds and five steals.
