Transformation in 2025
It’s that time of year again-the season for resolutions. As the new year begins, many of us are eager to do better, to make changes and to set new goals for ourselves. One powerful example of a resolution comes from the Bible, in the story of Zacchaeus. While most of us remember Zacchaeus as the “wee little man” who climbed a tree to see Jesus, his story is much more than just that.
Zacchaeus was a tax collector, and for much of his life, he had been cheating people out of their money. But everything changed when he encountered Jesus. After meeting Jesus and realizing the wrong he had done, Zacchaeus made a profound resolution, recorded in Luke 19:8. He said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” What sparked this dramatic change in Zacchaeus? It was the love and acceptance Jesus showed him. Despite being judged and ridiculed by others, Jesus chose to visit his house, and through this act of grace, Zacchaeus understood that he was worthy of love and forgiveness. He realized that Jesus offered something no one else could-salvation (Luke 19:9).
This realization prompted Zacchaeus to resolve to change his ways. So, as we enter this new year and make our own resolutions, let’s ensure they are motivated by the love and grace of Jesus, reflecting what He has done in our lives and in the lives of others. Wishing you a blessed and transformative New Year!
