Mildred Vest Blackwood

Hartselle A graveside funeral service and interment for Mildred Vest Blackwood, 94, was held Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Salem Community Cemetery with Bro. Barry Moley officiating. Mrs. Blackwood passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at NHC Healthcare. She was born May 29, 1930, in Morgan County, to William Ernest Vest and Ada Wallace Vest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Cotton” Blackwood, and her parents. She was the youngest of seven brothers and three sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. She was a licensed practical nurse (LPN), for 25 years and retired from Hartselle Medical Center where she assisted in the delivery of many babies. During her retirement she could usually be found fishing at the lake, which she enjoyed very much. She was a great football fan; especially Alabama Football. She deeply loved her family; was a fantastic cook and enjoyed making delicious meals for them. Survivors include her four children, Sylvia Jean Bloodworth, Ronnie Blackwood (Susan), Mike Blackwood (Diane), and Lynn Blackwood; grandchildren, John David Blackwood (Kim), Sonya Driggers, Karen Sandlin (Mikey), and Emily Hayes (Chris); and great-grandchildren, Michael Driggers (Kayla), Taylor Phillips (Coltin), Justin Driggers (Haley), Preston Phillips, Maddie Hayes, Hayley Berlanga, Payton Hoover, and Natalie Hoover. Pallbearers were Ronnie Blackwood, Mike Blackwood, Lynn Blackwood, Michael Driggers, Justin Driggers, and Preston Phillips. The family thanks Dr. Rex Tucker and the staff at NHC Moulton for “their tender care of our mother.”
