“Gone for Good” By Joanna Schaffhausen This is the first of a new series by this author. Annalisa Vega is a detective in Chicago who has been assigned to a murder case that has all the signs of being a serial killer resurfaced from 20 years ago. The Lovelorn Killer’s last victim before going underground was a family friend of Anna’s and happened at the Halloween party that she attended. Her childhood boyfriend, the victim’s son, has come back to town, and Annalisa has been stuck with her ex-husband as a partner on the case. The newest victim is Grace Harper, an amateur sleuth, who thinks she has uncovered a major detail the police missed. Before she can follow up with this clue, she is murdered by the very one she was trying to catch. During the investigation, Annalisa starts to receive threatening phone calls from the killer, and he is getting too close for comfort. Now she has to try and solve this case once and for all before someone else she loves is hurt. This mystery has surprises at the end that were unexpected.

“A Good Girls Guide to Murder” By Holly Jackson Pippa Fitz-Amobi is a teenager described as determined and maybe too smart. She is determined to solve the murder of Andie Bell. The police closed the case after Andie’s boyfriend Sal confessed and then killed himself. However, Pippa doesn’t believe that Sal could be a murderer. So, using her senior year capstone project as an excuse, Pippa starts her own investigation. There will be no stone unturned, and no involved person not questioned. All pieces of evidence will be fully investigated. Pippa will do what the police were too tunneled vision to do. With the help of Sal’s brother, Pippa will solve her murder. What unfolds is a can of worms involving so many people close to Pippa, Andi, Sal, and Ravi.

This young adult mystery novel is great for readers who love true crime and podcasts. You can find this book at the library and on the Libby app.
