Nikki Champion
Somerville A funeral service for Nikki Champion, 44, was held May 10, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gary Dobbs officiating. Burial was in Center Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Champion died on May 6, 2025, at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born September 19, 1980, in Morgan County to Bobby Waugh and Rita Dobbs Waugh. She passed away after a four-year-long battle with breast cancer. To know Nikki was, and is, to love her. She had a fierce spirit and a fire for life, both of which were contagious when you were around her. Nikki never gave up on anything her entire 44 years on this earth. She made the most of every single day; she stood tall when she was afraid; and she rallied behind her loved ones every time they needed her. Nikki graduated from Brewer High School in 1999; many knew her as Nikki Waugh. She was president of the FFA and had an enormous friend group; she kept in touch with many of those high school friends. December 31, 1999, she met her husband, Daniel, at a New Years Eve Party; and they were inseparable ever since. They married on July 30, 2004, and had two children Kasey and Harley. Nikki spent most of her time at home being a great mother. She started working fulltime at Cracker Barrel in Hartselle where she made a lasting impact on the community. Some may also know her from her time working at Bobby’s in Eva, Alabama. Preceding her in death were her devoted husband of 23 years, Daniel Champion; her papaw, Howard “Dude” Dobbs; her beloved ‘Granny’, Jura Mae Dobbs (Winton). Nikki’s father also passed away on May 7, soon after Nikki died. Special Thanks are extended from the family to Clearview Cancer Institute, Decatur Morgan Hospital, Dr. Tony Weaver and his staff, and Dr. Naveen Lobo and his staff, for taking such wonderful care of Nikki. Survivors include her daughters, Kasey Champion (Jeremy Lacy) and Harley Champion; her mother, Rita Dobbs Waugh; her brother, Keith Waugh (Akasha); her sister, Sarah Mackey (Dan); and her dear aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Michael Dobbs, Jerry Dobbs, Steve Dobbs, Jeremy Lacy, Dusty Eaton and Rusty White. Honorary Pallbearers were her children, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that memorial donations be made to her account at Peck Funeral Home.
