Priceville Boys and Girls Club is hosting its first annual Neon Night 5K Glow Run on May 23 at 7 p.m. After the run, community members can stay and enjoy games, entertainment, food and more.
Director Sasha Cratz said there will be something for everyone, even the non-runners.
“We’re going to have yard games set up at the Boys and Girls Club, so that everybody can hang out and enjoy themselves, even if running is not really their thing,” she said.
The cost to participate in the race is $25 for adults and $5 for children. To register for the race, visit https://tourdeville.redpodium.com/ glow-run.
“It is a run, but it’s a family fun run, so we don’t care if you walk, dance, run or do whatever you want to do. The race will start on the street in front of the Boys and Girls Club, and it will go through the neighborhood subdivisions nearby and will loop around and end at the club,” Cratz added.
Cratz said she hopes that this event will be a fun way for the community to connect and celebrate the beginning of summer.
“We want to kick off this summer in a really positive way, and pull in the community. We want everyone to participate, even if your kids don’t go to the Boys and Girls Club or live in the Priceville area. We want everybody to celebrate the end of the school year and the start of summer,” she said.
The Priceville Boys and Girls Club will directly benefit from the money raised through this event, and the funds are needed to continue the activities and events the Boys and Girls Club holds for students.
“I hope this event is going to become our
Priceville, page A-5 annual fundraiser for the club. This is our only fundraiser, but it is so necessary because we operate off of grants,” Cratz said. “We very much rely on our community to pour into us, whether that be volunteering or sponsorships and we look forward to seeing how the community responds to this event.” Because of the Boys and Girls Club, attending students have many opportunities to volunteer, participate in fun summer activities, go on field trips, learn social skills and improve their academic abilities. Through the money raised at the Neon Night 5K Glow Run, Cratz plans on continuing the enrich the lives of the students at the Boys and Girls Club and investing in improving local literacy.
“One of the biggest things we do here is try to improve literacy by making literacy practice a part of our regular routine. Most of the kids here do have pretty great grades, but they all seem to suffer in reading. So, we hire extra staff, just for literacy programs to improve students where they are and get them to a higher reading level by the time that summer is over,” Cratz said.
For the Boys and Girls Club and Cratz, this event is much more than just a fun night celebrating summer; it is paving the way for local students to grow academically and socially. “We believe in investing in our kiddos, but not just our kiddos, we are also investing in the parents, and the community of the whole. Every dollar that we make for this fundraiser goes specifically to our club,” Cratz said.
