    School board grants tenure to 16 teachers

    Hartselle School Board granted tenure to 16 teachers and made a number of other decisions affecting the city’s five schools and their personnel at its regular meeting on May 11.
    Receiving tenured status after completing a minimum of three years of satisfactory service in the school system were the following: Angie Harris, Barkley Bridge Elementary School; Tina Towers, F.E. Burleson Elementary School; Jamie Haynes and Jessica Wimberley, Crestline Elementary School; June Barnes, Lisa King, Dana Sharp and Christy Williams, Hartselle Junior High School; Dennis Willingham, Hartselle High School; and John Hall, Central Office.
    Five resignations were approved effective at the end of the 2009-2010 school year as follows: Maxine Hembree, reading coach at Barkley Bridge Elementary School; Sandra Hughes, music teacher at Crestline Elementary School; Ellen Hodgen, reading coach at F.E. Burleson Elementary School; Charles Yarbrough, eighth grade math teacher at Hartselle Junior High School; and Vetra Campbell, a teacher’s aide.
    Summer personnel for the 21st Century Program at F.E. Burleson were approved as follows: Debbie Queen, director; Sandra Jones, Lisa Halbrooks and Sherry Harrison, site coordinators and instructors; Brooke Pettey, Kristy Wiley, Carl Powell, Yulanda Hampton, Katie Davis, Suzanne Mozley and Rose Stansberry, instructors; Brittany Woodall, college aide; and Nichole Ricketts, Elizabeth Hill and Brooke Motes, student aides.
    Jerome Ward was approved to rejoin the faculty at Hartselle High School as a language arts teacher for the 2009-010 school year.
    Supervision for all custodians was transferred from the city’s five schools to the Central Office. Effective in 2009-2010, they will be assigned to their various schools based on participation and need by Jerry Reeves, director of school operations and student services.
    Margie Adams, a teacher at Crestline Elementary, was approved for a transfer from kindergarten to first grade for the 2009-2010 school year.
    Changes in the subjects they will teach in the 2009-2010 school year were approved for Hartselle High School teachers as follows:
    Leigh Ann Beard, from 5 geometry and 1 geometry A to 2 geometry, 1 tech geometry and 3 algebra B; Houston Blackwood, from 5 biology and 1 remediation to 5 biology and 1 honors biology; William Booth, from 3 AP calculus and 1 honors alg. II to 3 AP calculus and 1 alg. II trig.; Beth Chittam, from 3 Latin1 and 3 Latin II to 3 Latin 1, 2 Latin II and 1 Latin 3; Shanna Coan, from 3 biology, 2 earth/space and 1 forensic science to 3 zoology, 2 biology and 1 gen. physical sci.;
    Diedrah English, from 2 biology, 3 anatomy and 1 AP biology to 3 anatomy, 2 psychology and 1 AP biology; Jan Garner, from 6 US hy 10 to 4 US hy 10 and 2 US hy 11; Chad Gladden, from 2 SPE math, 2 SPE social studies, 1 SPE English and 1 SPE daily living to 2 SPE math, 2 SPE social studies and 2 inclusion; Kristi Greeson, form 3 Span. 1, 2 Span 2 and 1 scholars bowl to 5 Span. 1 and 1 scholars bowl; Erica Griffin, from 2 Eng. 9, 2 hon. Eng. 11and 2 hon. Eng. 10 to 3 Eng. 11, 2 pre-AP Eng. 11 and 1 hon. Eng., 11; Jeff Hanners, from 3world hy. and 3 US hy. 11 to 3 hon. world hy. and 3 world hy.; Haley Hardin, from 4 alg. B and 2 geometry A to 4 pre-cal and 2 math strategies; Jeff Hayes, from 3 US hy AP, 1 US hy. 11and 2 Amer. issues to 3 gov’t/econ. and 3 Amer. issues; Donna Legg -Battles, from 4 pre-cal. 1 hon. Geom. and 1 remediation to 2 hon. geom. and 4 geom.; Annie Lemons, from 4 Eng. 10 and 2 remediation to 5 Eng. 10 and 1 annual staff; Susan Martin, from 4 US hy.10 and 2 world hy. to 2 hon. world hy, 2 US hy 10 and 1 US hon, Hy 10;
    Janice Miller, from 5 alg. A and 1 alg. B to 5 alg. A and 1 alg. 1; Rhonda Miller, from 1 physics and 5 remediation to 1 physics, 1 hon. alg. 2 and 4 remediation; Suzanne Mizell,
    from 2 chem. 1, and 4 earth/space to 2 chem. 1, 2 earth/space and 2 gen. physical; Keith Morrow, from 6 inclusion to 4 alternative and 2 inclusion; Mary Morrow, from 2 hon. Eng. 9 and 4 folklore to 3 hon., Eng. 9, 1 Eng. 9 and 2 folklore; Jack Napier, from 4 alg. I trig, 1 alg. III and 1 alg I to 4 alg. II trig, 1 alg. III and 1 alg.; Lavonda Napier, from 5 environ. and 1 bio. To 3 environ. and 2 AP environ.; Gary Orr, from 5 alternative and 1 girl’s basketball to 2 ACCESS, 3 alternative classes and 1 girl’s basketball; Nikki Peebles, from 6 Eng. 9 to 5 Eng. 9 and 1 remediation;
    Kim Pittman, from 2 bio., 2 chem. and 2 gen. phy. sci. to 2 hon. bio, 2 hon. chem. and I gen. phy. sci. Margaret Ann Praytor, from 2 personal finance, I marketing, 1 annual staff, 1 co-op studies and I work experience to 2 personal finance, 1 marketing, 1 co-op studies, 1 BTE and 1 work experience; Christy Radford, from 4 Eng. 11, 1 Eng. 10 and 1 journalism to 3 Eng. 9, 2 creative writing and 1 journalism; Linda Roberts, from 3 BTE and 3 int. computer to 2 BTE, 2 adv. bus., and 2 multimedia; Dan Styles, from 3 gov’t/econ. and 3 US hy 11 to 3 US hy 11, 1 hon. US hy 11 and 1 hon. Gov’t /econ.; Beth Vest, from 4 Eng. 10 and 2 AP Eng. 12 to 3 hon. Eng. 10 and 3 Eng. 10.
