Huie event recognizes women writers

An event named for Hartselle's most famous son will take place April 18-20 at Snead State Community College in Boaz.
The William Bradford Huie Alabama Collection 2004 is spotlighting women journalist of Alabama. The theme comes from an unfinished sequel to Huie's 1975 novel "In the Hours of Night." The sequel, "A Woman to be Remembered" featured a fictional female reporter. Real-life female writers and a few male ones will be on hand for the event.
Featured speaker will be Kathryn Tucker Windham, an Alabama journalist since 1940. The author of several books, she has written for the Alabama Journal, The Birmingham News and the Selma Times-Journal. Also featured is Rheta Grimsely Johnson, columnist for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and King Features Syndicate of New York.

Also on hand will be Martha Hunt Huie, widow of William Bradford Huie and former head of the art department at Snead State.
The works of artists John Solomon Sandridge will also be on display. Sandridge has illustrated national ad campaigns for Coca-Cola and for McDonald's Black History Month book series. His gallery is located in Gadsden.
