Hartselle's Downtown Historic Depot will be among the sites throughout Alabama hosting a series of walking tours this summer.
More than 30 cities and towns are taking part in this summer's Saturday Walking Tours, sponsored by the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel.
The guided walking tours will take place at 10 a.m. each Saturday morning on June 12, 19, 26 and July 3. The walking tours are free and take about one hour.
At Hartselle's event, community leaders will direct the walks and share their personal stories and memories of the Depot.
According to State Tourism Director Lee Sentell, Alabama is the only state in the country to hold statewide, simultaneous walking tours. The program was launched last year in selected cities, where it was met with such good participation that state officials decided to expand it and make it an annual event.
"The beauty of the Saturday Walking Tours is that any community, whether big or small, can do this," Sentell said.
Among the other North Alabama cities and locations hosting the walking tours are: Decatur, Delano Park tennis courts; Florence, University of North Alabama Campus Courtview Street; Huntsville, Alabama Constitution Village; Madison, Clay House Museum; and Sheffield, Grace Wedding Chapel.
