    A night to remember

    By Staff
Bedwell scores record 44 points in Priceville's 68-62 win over Devils
Justin Schuver and Clif Knight, Hartselle Enquirer
Junior guard Josh Bedwell has already had some solid scoring nights this season, but nothing quite like Friday's performance.
Bedwell scored 44 points for Priceville Friday night as the Bulldogs held off a tenacious Falkville team to win at home and pick up a key area win. The 44 points is a modern-era record for Priceville (12-6, 5-1 in Area 14), which re-started varsity athletics five years ago.
"He shot the ball unbelievably well, and made his foul shots when he went to the line," Priceville coach Darrell Haynes said. "He was on, and he was hot tonight."
The Blue Devils (10-5, 3-2) defeated Priceville Dec. 6 at Falkville, 61-58, a game that remains the Bulldogs' only area loss this season. Bedwell scored 30 points in that contest.
"We just tried to deny (Bedwell) the basketball and we didn't do a very good job of it," Falkville coach Yancey Randolph said. "We tried to play him like we did the first time where he had 30 but we kept their other guys in check, but this time they really had some other guys on their team who helped.
"He's probably the best shooter we'll face all season, and when he's on, he's on. You've just got to play hard and hope he misses some, and he didn't miss too many tonight."
Bedwell attempted just 25 shots from the field, but hit 17 of them. He was 5-of-10 from behind the three-point line and was 5-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Priceville led 35-30 at halftime and 50-40 after the third quarter.
Heath Alford scored 23 points to lead Falkville and Cody Sewell had 17.

The Lady Bulldogs led 29-8 at halftime and cruised from there as they picked up an area win at home against Falkville Friday night.
Jessi Smith had 13 points for Priceville (11-7, 5-1), which won its fourth straight area game. Stephanie Hardiman added nine points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Emily Dabbs scored 12 points to lead Falkville (10-5, 2-3)
    Addison boys 53
    Danville boys 49 (OT)
Danville's Hawks led by as many as 16 points early in the game before losing to Addison's unbeaten Bulldogs, 53-49, in overtime at home Friday night.
Addison, ranked sixth in the state in Class 1A, extended its undefeated record to nine games with the win. Danville fell to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in area competition.
The Hawks stunned the visitors with an unanswered 11-point run and claimed a 21-5 advantage after one period. They were up 31-23 at halftime. The Bulldogs pulled to within one point of the Hawks, 33-34, in the third period and grabbed the lead for the first time in the game with 6:40 left.
The Hawks had a chance to win the contest at the end but a jumper with two seconds left rimmed off the goal and a put back by Tyree Murphy that went down was ruled no good because the ball left his hand after time had elapsed.
Addison pulled ahead by five points in the first two minutes of overtime and was able to hang on for the win.
"We gave it all we had physically but not mentally," Danville head coach Robert Pope said. "After we got the big lead we made some bad shots and let them get back in it. They're a good team and they did what they had to do to win."
Chris Vest, the Hawks' top scorer, fouled out midway in the fourth quarter.
Stratton Garner paced the Hawks in scoring with 16 points. Vest added 13 points.
Mark Fisher paced the Bulldogs with 16 points and Kyle Carden followed him with 12 points.

Addison's Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 8-1 by defeating Danville's Lady Hawks 39-24 on the road Friday night.
They were ahead 7-6 after one period, 24-14 at halftime and 27-18 after three periods.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Jessy Willingham with 19 points. She achieved the 1,000 career points plateau in the third quarter. The sophomore guard has been a starter since she was in the seventh grader.
Alaina Fitzgerald paced the Lady Hawks with eight points. Haley Hensley added six points.
    Danville boys 86
    Hatton boys 81
Danville's Hawks improved their record to 9-8 with an 86-81 double overtime win at Hatton Saturday night.
The game was tied at 61-all at the end of regulation and 72-all after the first overtime.
Danville head coach Robert Pope said the difference in the game was the ability of his players to hold onto the ball, drive into the paint and draw fouls and convert them at the free throw line.
"It wasn't pretty, but it was a win," he pointed out.
Vest led the Hawks with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Garner added 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Roger Smith had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Murphy had 11 points and Zack Orr had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Will Nichols paced Hatton with 21 points. He was followed by Jordan Waldrep with 16 points, Calvin Ard with 13 and Matthew Dudley with 12.
    Hatton girls 60
    Danville girls 45
Danville's Lady Hawks dropped to 9-9 on the season as they lost to Hatton's Lady Hornets, 60-45, on the road Saturday night.
Bethany Evans paced Danville with 16 points. Fitzgerald added 16. Kristen Sparkman was credited with nine rebounds.
Leading the Lady Hornets was Grace Harrison with 13 points and six rebounds. Chloe Malone and Kaitlyn Fleming each had nine points.
    Huntsville boys 62
    Brewer boys 52
Matt Nielsen scored 30 points for the Patriots in a losing effort as they dropped a road area game Friday night.
Brewer fell to 8-10 overall and 3-2 in Class 5A, Area 14.
    Brewer girls 44
    Huntsville girls 38
Brewer's Andrea Crawford had a night to remember, finishing with 18 points, seven rebounds and nine points in the final four minutes as the Lady Patriots picked up a big road area win Friday night.
Nichole Hayes scored 14 points for Brewer (10-8) and Meagan Hormel led the team with 11 rebounds. Lauren Wilson scored 16 points to lead the Lady Panthers.
