April 29, 1960-A cemetery cleaning is currently in progress at Old Friendship church south of Danville. Decoration will be held Sunday including singing directed by Jack Miller.
April 30, 1960-Jerri Glasgow, a student at Danville High School, won first place today in a typing contest sponsored by the North Alabama College of Commerce. Her prize was a new Royal portable typewriter.
May 1, 1960-Sandra Shaneyfelt is the new president of the FHA chapter at Falkville High School.
May 1, 1960-Two Somerville men smashed through the front door of the Garnie Pitts residence here tonight. Their motives were unclear but the Pitts couple escaped unhurt.
May 1, 1960—Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sams of Falkville are the proud parents of a baby daughter born today at Cullman Hospital.
May 2, 1960—Four Hartselle teenage boys have been arrested and charged both with larceny and the destruction of private property. The boys allegedly egged both the exterior and interior of the car of Freeman Hale in the Flint TB Sanitorium parking lot Saturday night.
May 3, 1960-The MCHS baseball Tigers beat Priceville here today by the score of 11-8. Doug Turney was the winnng pitcher for Hartselle, striking out 10. Raymond Luter was the offensive leader for MCHS, with a double, a single, and 5 RBI’s. The Tigers now have a 4-1 record.
May 3, 1960-Hartselle radio station WHRT was off the air briefly at noon today for a civil defense test broadcast. A brief message was played from President Eisenhower.
May 3, 1960-U.S. Senator John Sparkman was the easy winner of the Democratic primary today. He will serve a fourth term since the November general election is only a formality. In local races Porter Lee Hanes will be in a runoff with Mary Frost for county tax assessor. Hanes is a Hartselle man and practically shut out his opponent here. The office is now held by Hartselle doctor J. T. Burch.
May 3, 1960—Morgan County Republicans met in Hartselle today to elect officers and choose delegates to their district and state conventions. There are so few Republicans in Morgan County that it was possible to hold the meeting at the home of the party secretary, J. D. Pope, at 213 Pine St. Others elected to upcoming district and state GOP conventions included R. L. Penn, O. L. Penn, Guy Walker, Ruth Livingston, H. R. Sherrow, and J. D. Bush.
May 4, 1960—The Morgan County Gun Club has recently been established with Dr. Harold Blanton of Hartselle as the first president. The club will be oriented toward skeet shooting.
May 5, 1960-Patrons are being inconvenienced, but only temporarily, at Hartselle Hospital currently as construction workers are in the process of adding about 17,000 square feet of floor space to the city’s premier medical facility.
The job is expected to be finished by Aug. 1, according to hospital administrator Orval Sparkman. Also, two new physicians are being added to the hospital staff, Dr. Troy Kilpatrick, now at St. Vincent’s in Birmingham, and Dr. James Moody, presently at Birmingham’s Carraway Methodist Hospital.
