Aug. 12, 1960-Elmore’s greatly expanded store on West Main is enjoying an enthusiastic response from old and new customers alike. They report that shopping at the store is easier than ever and the new interior is handsome throughout.

Aug. 12, 1960—Mr. and Mrs. Loy Greenhill of Eva are thoroughly enjoying their new baby boy, Keith, who was born a few days ago at Hartselle Hospital.
Aug. 13, 1960-Hartselle Jaycees have a membership drive under way. It’s being led by Joe Bradford and Luke Chesteen. Membership in the group currently totals 42. It is open to men from 21-36.
Aug. 13, 1960-Rev. Jerry Smith has announced to his congregation that he is resigning from the First Christian Church pulpit. A committee consisting of Ernest Greer, E. A. Oden, Howard Evans, and Lloyd Logan is now looking for a new minister.
Aug. 13, 1960-Army Staff Sgt. Edward L. Monroe, son of Mrs. Pearl Monroe, 305 Hammett St., recently completed the eight-week supply specialist course at the Quartermaster School, Fort Lee, Va. The 24-year-old soldier is a graduate of MCHS and attended Auburn University.
Aug. 14, 1960-Tommy Putman remains in very serious condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Complications have hampered his recovery since his most recent heart surgery late last month. Danny Rollins is reported to be recovering well from the heart surgery he underwent at the same hospital.
Aug. 14, 1960-Revival services began at Hartselle First Baptist tonight. The evangelist is Rev. Sigurd Bryan, a professor in the Bible Department at Howard College in Birmingham.
Aug. 15, 1960-Yarbrough Radio & TV will be closed from today through Aug. 20 so that the Yarbrough family may enjoy a well-deserved vacation.
Aug. 15, 1960-Hartselle native Bush Gilchrist is the co-owner and co-manager of Town and Country Interiors, a store featuring high quality home furnishings that has recently opened on Court Street in Montgomery.
Aug. 15, 1960-Mayor John Burleson says, “The city will have to get another fire-truck to carry it through the winter. The old one is about shot.”
Aug. 16, 1960-Area UA alums met in Decatur tonight. State Rep. Albert Brewer is president of the county alumni association. Coach Jerry Claiborne, a key member of Coach Bear Bryant’s staff, was the main speaker.
Aug. 16, 1960-The Dr. Fred Sherrill family has just returned from seven months of language school in Costa Rica as part of their preparation to be medical missionaries.
Aug. 16, 1960-H. A. Alexander of Moulton is the new president of the Joe Wheeler EMC.
Aug. 17, 1960-A group of neighborhood children residing on Rock Street have organized a club they call the Hill Top Gang. Their counselors are Mrs. L. H. Houston and Gene Robinson.
Aug. 17, 1960-John W. Roberts has acquired the Main Street building formerly occupied by Star Market.
Aug. 18, 1960-A Tanner Heights paving project is now well underway. It includes Tanner Drive, Crescent Drive, Sobotka Street, Audubon Street and Audubon Place.
Aug. 18, 1960-A new Christian teenagers group has been formed in Hartselle. Sherry Maddox is serving as temporary president of the organization while Dale Quillen is publicity chairman. Their tentative name is Inter-Faith Christian Students.
Aug. 18, 1960-Ranny Lott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lott, has been named the “star pitcher” in Hartselle’s Babe Ruth League for the summer season. He was on the mound for the Tigers and his best game was a no-hitter on July 19 against the Red Sox.
